The Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, a British think tank, published a report that examines the impact that sanctions imposed on Russia in response to the 2014 annexation of Crimea and the 2022 invasion of Ukraine have had on both the production and exports of oil and gas from that country.

The report, which was supported by the UK Energy Research Centre, concludes “that the Russian oil and gas industry is certainly not on the point of collapse, although it has been affected by technological and commercial sanctions. Furthermore, although the Russian economy is hardly booming, it has proved remarkably resilient to the change in hydrocarbon exports caused by sanctions and in the scenarios we envisage it is likely to continue to be so for some time.”
