The Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, a British think tank, has published a new paper looking at Europe shifting to using more renewable energy while reducing reliance on natural gas from Russia.

From the executive summary:

This study examines the structural changes in Europe’s energy landscape following the loss of over one-third of its natural gas supplies from Russia due to the war in Ukraine, which disrupted the traditional gas trade route between Russia and Europe. Amid Europe’s significant integration into global energy markets, this paper, using a global energy market model, evaluates the mid-term market and policy impacts of shifting towards renewable energy sources and the global LNG market to lessen its
dependence on Russian gas.
