EDMONTON — Above-normal temperatures affecting much of Western Canada are expected to spread into Manitoba later in the week.

Environment Canada has heat warnings in place throughout Alberta, much of central and northern Saskatchewan, as well as a large swath of southern B.C.

Temperatures in Alberta and Saskatchewan could reach 35 C by Wednesday.

The weather office says overnight temperatures won’t provide much relief from the heat, with lows predicted in the mid-teens.

Parts of Manitoba are expected to see temperatures hit 30 C by Wednesday.

Environment Canada says the heat on the Prairies is likely to linger into next week.

People are being encouraged to take precautions against the heat, like drinking lots of water and staying in the shade, especially when taking part in outdoor events like the Calgary Stampede or the upcoming Winnipeg Folk Festival.
