EDP (Energias de Portugal) is a Portuguese electric utilities company, headquartered in Lisbon.It was founded in 1976 through the merger of 14 nationalised electricity companies, and has emerged as a major player in renewable power generation in Europe and in North America. Formerly known as Energias de Portugal, S.A. and as Electricidade de Portugal, E.P, subsidiaries include EDP Renewables and EDP Renewables North America. Shareholders include China Three Gorges Corporation, Qatar Investment Agency and BlackRock.
